    Holiday spirit, more or less
A lovely, rather seasonal weekend so far here in Bugtussle. Yesterday we had snow--not enough to even coat the grass very well, but still, white drifty flakes and that certain tang to the air. Today is all beautiful winter--sunny, cold, dry and crisp.

After weeks of trying to figure out what to buy for Spouse (the membership to the scotch-tasting club having been foiled by antiquated Pennsylvania liquor laws) I finally settled on buying him lots and lots of CDs. He has a multi-disc changer in his car and he rotates the music frequently. I've been on the hunt for moderately-priced CDs all over the area. In the process, I discovered that there are CDs of the music from NCIS--two volumes, actually. So now the kids know what to get me for Christmas. For Spouse, there are the original cast sound track from West Side Story, the new Norah Jones CD, a Christina Aguilera CD, two jazz CDs, a selection of 1980's greatest hits, Bernstein conducting Gustav Mahler, and a best-of from a flautist whose name completely escapes me right now. That should hold him.

Of course, during my holiday shopping, items that only I can use have fallen into the shopping carts from time to time. (How does that happen? Hmmmm....) So I am the very happy owner of a CD by Anonymous 4 called Love's Illusion, a collection of 13th century polyphonic love songs, or songs about love, which is of course an entirely different matter. There might also be a Ralph Lauren shirt in white broadcloth and a pink (yes, really) henley--a shade of pink which owes absolutely nothing to Pepto-Bismol and everything to the palm of an infant's hand.

I'll be finishing the mailing of holiday gifts this coming week. Tonight, in order to excavate the stuff I have to put in boxes and send, I will dig all the booty so far collected from the closet and see what I have for whom.

It appears that holiday preparations progress apace, though the tree is still not up. How's with you during this silly season?

A quick hello and a big ol' NCIS rec
It's been a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! The big meal went really well, and I had a good time at work on Friday morning. Nothing like working all by yourself in a quiet building. When I ran out of work, I watched videos on the laptop and played games. If I could, I think I'd work third shift much more often.

Friday, though I didn't plan to, I did some shopping and got quite a lot done in a very short amoutn of time. Son G's birthday is in a couple weeks, and I was able to find the Wii game he wanted at Target, along with some inexpensive movies for stocking stuffers and the remainder of the overseas gifts.

Yesterday, I started working on what will eventually be the coat closet in the dining room. Had to pause with that; the walls were badly stained, so we put a couple coats of Kilz paint on it and let it sit overnight. I worked on the closet in my own room instead, and fixed it so the things I use all the time (yoga clothing, sweats and old shirts for hanging around the house) were in the shelves on the floor and the rest of the infrequently used stuff was up on the high shelves. It makes me happy to have that fixed; all the clothing used to fall down on my head when I pulled out a sweatshirt or a pair of yoga pants.

Last night, at the end of doing laundry a few minutes after midnight, the phone rang. It was my coworker; I'd forgotten that I was supposed to go in to the office at midnight for one last shift before the new employee starts! I was at the office by twenty past twelve. Slept a bit this morning when I got home, then packed up the overseas holiday gifts so I can mail them tomorrow.

The cherry on top of the weekend was finding an NCIS AU slave!fic by [info - personal] seleneheart at the [info] raselgethi community. (Minxie, are you getting this?) It's long, satisfying, beautifully written, hot as the blazes, and a perfect AU for Gibbs. If you like powerplay fic at all, at all, go read this one. It's the good crack, and there's looking like several follow-on stories, too!

Also, in "The Nigerian Job," the Leverage team drinks out of "Leverage Consultants and Associates" coffee mugs. WANT!!!

    Is this icon yours?
I made this icon quite a while ago. It seems to me that it was made as a gift for someone, but I don't remember who. I'd like to use it, but if it's yours, please let me know that you don't mind me using it myself.
